How long have you been working for your organization?

I have been with KNKX for just over 5 years.

What’s a typical day in your role like?

In my day-to-day, I perform a lot of correspondence with our listeners and donors. I manage the monthly giving program of over 13,000 members, so a lot of time is spent updating contact and payment details and adjusting and processing pledges. I maintain the online donation forms and make edits as needed.

I also create and send email and mail correspondence related to the annual fund as well as various other tasks that come up such as member surveys, creating and implementing new procedures, and assisting with annual fundraising planning.

What motivates you to come to work every day?

What motivates me to come to work every day is knowing the impact our station has on our local community (Seattle/Tacoma area) and beyond. A couple of years ago, the station was almost sold, but the community saved us and showing up every day to make sure our listeners get their needs met is motivating and inspiring. I also have really amazing colleagues that make it a great spot to work!

What’s your favourite aspect of your job?

I have a few favorite aspects! One is learning new things and that every day is different. I always strive to continue learning and growing my skillset, and I love when I'm given new tasks or challenges to complete and make my own.

I also enjoy solving donor inquiries that may not be straight forward, resolving the issues that arise, and looking for discrepancies in data. Lastly, I love helping out at events and meeting our listeners and donors. It always reminds me of the importance of the work we do in public media, and the value we have in the community.

What are your biggest professional challenges?

I'd say the biggest challenge in working for a smaller nonprofit is there are always a lot of wonderful ideas and room for creativity and growth, but not enough people or hours in the day to implement everything we want to accomplish.

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor? Can you tell us why?

I would choose Dr. Sylvia Earle, who is a marine biologist and was the first female chief scientist of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. My passion lies with ocean conservation, and I admire that she carved her path and has dedicated her career to saving the world's oceans. I would want to know how she learned to take risks and how to make the biggest difference possible for our planet.

What’s your personal mantra?

"Always remember you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, smarter than you think, and loved more than you know." – A.A. Milne. This quote always reminds me that I'm fortunate to have a lot of love and support around me and that I am capable of doing anything I put my mind to.

Do you have hobbies outside of work? What are they?

Yes! I volunteer with several environmental organizations, including Wolf Haven International in Tenino, WA, and with the South Sound Surfrider Chapter as Volunteer Coordinator and water sampler. I also enjoy reading, being in nature as much as I can, and going to concerts with my sister.
